Dr. Gisa Gerold

Dr. Gisa Gerold is a Full Professor & Director of the Institute of Virology at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria. She is a trained biochemist, who did her PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany. Subsequently, she worked as a postdoc in the group of Prof. Charles M. Rice at the Rockefeller University, New York, USA.

Building on over 17 years of experience in cellular virology applying mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study virus-host interactions, she has established organoid models to study encephalitic alphaviruses and ex vivo tissue culture models for arboviruses. Her institute is part of the Global Virus Network and she is the coordinator of the Horizon Europe project EAVI. Further, she serves as a mentor for next generation scientists in several programs.

Within MERIT, Dr. Gerold will serve as a Principal Investigator.
