Dr. Emanuele Buratti
Dr. Emanuele Buratti is Scientific Coordinator of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste, Group Leader of the Molecular Pathology lab, and contracted professor at the University of Trieste, Italy, teaching the RNA Therapeutics module.
He holds a M.Sc. in Biology and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Trieste. His principal areas of expertise are the investigation of RNA binding proteins and RNA metabolism in neurodegeneration and metabolic diseases. On these subjects, Dr. Buratti is the author of over 250 research papers in peer-reviewed publications and book chapters (orcid.org/0000-0002-1356-9074), h-index=67 (SCOPUS), mostly focusing on the impact of disease-associated mutations on the RNA splicing process and the role played by TDP-43 in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD).
Dr. Buratti is also Associate Editor at Frontiers in Genetics and the president of the Scientific Committee of the Italian FTD Patient association (AIMFT, www.frontotemporale.it) and has been Chairperson for Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) from 2017 to 2023.
