Dr. Elisabeth Wetzer

Elisabeth Wetzer is an Associate Professor in Machine Learning at the Department of Physics and Technology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway and Principal Investigator at the Visual Intelligence a Centre for Research-Based Innovation, as well as the Norwegian Centre of Excellence for Knowledge-Driven Machine Learning Integreat.

She holds a degree in Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering from the Technical University of Vienna, Austria, and a PhD in Computerized Image Processing from Uppsala University, Sweden. She is an expert in developing deep learning methodology for biomedical data, in particular for multimodal images, spatio-temporal medical images, and microscopy. To adapt learning-based methods to limited data settings as often encountered in biomedical applications, her work focuses on exploiting geometric constraints, physics models, and biological domain knowledge.

Within MERIT, Wetzer will be involved in supervision of PhD students and training in machine learning and AI analysis for data fusion.
